Tag and registration questions
Renewing, what to bring, one- or two-year tags, the new plate design and lost decals.
Your tag (registration) has to be renewed every year you own a vehicle. These are the tag questions we hear most at Eastside Tag Agency.
Do I have to renew my tag every year?
Yes. Oklahoma requires you to renew the registration on every vehicle you own each year, even if it's parked and not being driven.
Since November 1, 2023, you can choose a one-year or a two-year registration when you register or renew. Two years costs the same as two one-year renewals, so there's no discount for paying ahead.
When can I renew online?
Starting the month before your registration expires. Renew online (opens the State of Oklahoma site in a new tab) and the State's Navigate site opens with our office already selected, so we process your renewal and work to get it in the mail the next business day.
What do I need to renew online?
- Your vehicle's full VIN
- Your plate number
- Your full Oklahoma title number
- A valid Oklahoma insurance policy
- The owner's driver license number (or FEIN for a business)
- A credit card or checking account
Our guide to renewing your tag online walks through each screen.
What should I bring to renew in person?
Your driver license, proof of Oklahoma insurance, and your vehicle's VIN or plate number. We're at 1914 S Garnett Rd, Tulsa, OK 74128, open Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
I never got a renewal notice. Do I still owe a late penalty?
Yes. The notice is only a courtesy reminder, and the State charges the penalty whether or not it arrived. You can sign up for email reminders on Service Oklahoma's vehicle renewal page (opens in a new tab). See fees and penalties for how the penalty adds up.
Do I need the new red Oklahoma plate?
No. Oklahoma started issuing a new standard plate design on September 1, 2024, but existing plates weren't recalled. If you'd like the new red plate, it's a $4 plate replacement fee when you renew, or $9 at any other time.
My decal was stolen or damaged. What do I do?
You can order a replacement decal online (opens the State of Oklahoma site in a new tab) or replace it at our office. Either way there's a State fee: $9, plus the $1.50 insurance fee. Our guide to replacing a lost or stolen decal or plate covers the fees and what to bring.
