Welcome to Oklahoma! Here's how to get your vehicle registered here in one trip.
What to bring
- Your out-of-state title.
- Form 701-6, the Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title. We can usually print it for you here, or you can get it from our forms page.
- Your driver license.
- Proof of Oklahoma insurance.
- The vehicle itself. A vehicle with an out-of-state or tribal title gets a VIN inspection before Oklahoma titles it.
Make copies first; your original documents may not be returned to you.
The VIN inspection
Someone checks that the vehicle identification number on your car matches your title. Licensed Operators like us do it while you're here, and the State's fee is $4.
Bought the car in another state?
Bring the title signed over to you. If you bought it from a dealership, bring the purchase agreement too.
What you'll pay
- The $11 title fee
- The $4 VIN inspection
- Registration, based on the vehicle's registration year: from $97.50 a year for a newer car down to $27.50 for one in its 17th year or later, including the $1.50 insurance fee
- Excise tax, if it applies to your vehicle
Service Oklahoma's Sales & Excise Tax Calculator, linked from its fees page (opens in a new tab), estimates the excise tax. Our fees and penalties questions cover the rest.
You'll leave with your plate
Once everything's processed and paid, you'll get a standard Oklahoma license plate and decal to put on your vehicle. If you'd rather have a specialty plate, it can be ordered at the same visit and mailed to you.
Don't forget your driver license
New residents should also switch to an Oklahoma driver license. A valid license, or one expired less than six months ago, can usually be transferred without retesting, as long as your driving record is in good standing. The fee is $42.50 for four years or $81 for eight. Bring your birth certificate or a valid passport and proof of your address, and know your Social Security number.
Call us at (918) 438-2198 and we'll tell you whether we can handle your license here or you'll need a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office. If you want it to be a REAL ID, bring two proofs of Oklahoma residency; our REAL ID checklist lists everything.
